ZEP Browser extension

This article explains how to set up the ZEP browser extension and make the most of its features.

Written by Gideon Weller

With the ZEP browser extension, you record your working and project times quickly and conveniently, without having to open the ZEP web application. You start and stop time entries directly in your browser and keep track of your current working time at any time.

The extension is available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This article describes setup and use in both browsers.

Note: Which functions the extension offers depends on your product line. In ZEP Clock, you only clock in and out (with a live timer and the time shown on the icon). In ZEP Compact and ZEP Professional, you additionally record individual project times via Track project time; the travel-cost fields in the booking form are available only in ZEP Professional. Which buttons appear is also controlled by your tenant configuration.

ZEP Google Chrome extension

The ZEP extension for Google Chrome provides the time clock and project-time recording directly in your browser toolbar.

Setting up the ZEP Google Chrome extension

First install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. The ZEP logo then appears among the extensions on the right of your toolbar. Log in there with your ZEP URL, your ZEP username (not your e-mail address), and your password; the tenant is derived from the ZEP URL, there is no separate tenant selection.

Note: You can find your ZEP URL in the address bar when you are logged in to ZEP, or via the path Profile > Interfaces > Mobile Apps.

Using the ZEP Google Chrome extension

After logging in, the time clock appears. Use the Start tracking button to begin your time measurement; the running time is then also shown directly on the extension icon at the top right.

In ZEP Compact and ZEP Professional, the Track project time button additionally appears, with which you book a project time including project, task, activity, billability, and remark. A detailed description of the booking form is available in the article Project times and working times.

With Stop attendance, you stop the time tracking and the times are saved. You discard a running, not yet saved time via the red trash icon. You can pin the extension to your address bar or open it as a separate window and move it freely on your desktop.

ZEP Microsoft Edge extension

Microsoft Edge is based on the same Chromium technology as Chrome; the ZEP extension is therefore also installed via the Chrome Web Store and then runs in Edge.

Setting up the ZEP Microsoft Edge extension

Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store. After installation, Edge confirms the addition.

Warning: The ZEP extension for Microsoft Edge is not installed from the Edge add-on store but also from the Chrome Web Store. It can then be used normally within Microsoft Edge.

Via the ZEP icon at the top right you open the extension and log in with your ZEP URL, your ZEP username, and your password.

Using the ZEP Microsoft Edge extension

The operation corresponds to the Chrome variant. After logging in, the time clock appears, you begin time measurement with Start tracking, and the running time is shown on the extension icon.

In ZEP Compact and ZEP Professional, you record individual project times via Track project time; details are described in the article Project times and working times. With Stop attendance, you stop the recording, and via the red trash icon you discard a running time.
