Interfaces – Administration

SOAP interface, REST interface, Interface Marketplace, and DATEV — central technical integrations of the administration.

Written by Gideon Weller

The Interfaces box in the administration activates the central technical integrations of your ZEP instance. It contains four submenu items: the SOAP interface, the REST interface, the Interface Marketplace, and the DATEV configuration. Which submenu items are visible depends on the active modules and the product line of your instance.

SOAP interface

Via the SOAP interface, ZEP exposes an XML-based web-service interface that lets external systems read or write master data, time bookings, projects, and other content programmatically. SOAP is the older of the two ZEP interfaces and is frequently used for server-side integrations with existing backend systems.

The configuration of the interface address, the authentication method (Digest, Basic, or Token), the optional IP restriction, and the automatic delivery logic for employee access credentials is done in the submenu. A full description of all fields and the developer documentation is provided in the article ZEP interfaces.

Note: The SOAP interface is activated via the add-on module ZEP interfaces. Available in ZEP Clock, ZEP Compact, and ZEP Professional after booking via the ZEP Self-Service Tool.

REST interface

Via the REST interface, ZEP exposes a modern web-based interface that is particularly suited for web and mobile applications and for the integration of cloud services. It is described in machine-readable form via an OpenAPI specification and is the recommended interface for new integrations.

In the submenu, you maintain the interface address and the bearer token used to authenticate each request. A full description of the fields, the specification, and hints for developers is provided in the article ZEP interfaces as well as in the ZEP Developer Hub linked from there.

Note: The REST interface is activated via the add-on module ZEP interfaces. Available in ZEP Clock, ZEP Compact, and ZEP Professional after booking via the ZEP Self-Service Tool.

Interface Marketplace

In the Interface Marketplace, you activate ready-made connectors for common third-party systems — for example for HR software, CRM tools, or ticket tools. Per connector, you store the credentials or an OAuth connection to the respective third-party system. After activation, the data exchange runs automatically in the background.

Which connectors are currently available depends on your ZEP version and on the marketplace offering. The individual third-party integrations are documented per topic area in dedicated collections:

Note: The Interface Marketplace is available in ZEP Clock, ZEP Compact, and ZEP Professional. Every connector must be licensed via the ZEP Self-Service Tool before activation; in addition, the respective third-party licence with the provider is a prerequisite.

DATEV

Under DATEV, ZEP opens the central DATEV dashboard for the integration of your instance with the DATEV cloud or DATEV Online. Via the dashboard, you authorise the OAuth connection between ZEP and your DATEV account once and then enable the DATEV services to use. The integration covers two functional areas:

  • Accounting — handover of receipts, posting records, debtors, creditors, and master data to DATEV (accounting handover). The maintenance of accounts, cost centres, and the mapping is done in the Export for Accounting submenu of the administration. A full description is provided in the collection Export for accounting.

  • Payroll — synchronisation of employee master data from DATEV to ZEP and handover of working hours and absences from ZEP to the DATEV services Lohnimportdatenservice and Lohnergebnisdatenservice. A detailed description of the setup is provided in the article DATEV LODAS and Lohn und Gehalt.

Note: The DATEV submenu item is available in ZEP Clock, ZEP Compact, and ZEP Professional. In ZEP Professional, the DATEV integration is included as soon as the Export for Accounting area is active. In ZEP Clock and ZEP Compact, the interface is booked as an add-on module via the ZEP Self-Service Tool.
